Philippine Data Privacy Act (RA 10173)

The Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) governs how personal information is collected, stored, and processed in the Philippines. It is enforced by the National Privacy Commission and requires security safeguards, lawful processing, and breach notification. It applies alongside the privacy rules of your own country.

What it means in practice

For a business with an offshore hire, the practical steps are the same wherever the person sits: give access only to the systems they need, use a password manager, turn on two-factor authentication, and sign a non-disclosure agreement that covers client data.

Healthcare and legal work need extra care. U.S. rules such as HIPAA still apply to your data when a remote professional handles it, so set up access and training before day one.

Rekruuto places full-time healthcare and legal assistants in the Philippines. See both roles for the work they cover.

A short security checklist for an offshore hire

  • List the systems and data the role needs, and grant access to those only.
  • Share credentials through a password manager, never in chat or email.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication for every account the hire uses.
  • Sign a non-disclosure agreement that covers your clients' personal data.
  • Remove access on the same day the work ends, and keep a record of what was removed.
