Glossary · Managing remote work
Employee retention
Employee retention is a company's ability to keep good people over time. It is usually measured as the share of staff who stay over a year. Retention depends on fair pay, steady work, respect, growth, and a manager who gives clear goals and feedback. Every departure costs recruiting and ramp time.

What it means in practice
Offshore hires leave for the same reasons local staff do: unclear expectations, unstable hours, or no path to grow. Treat a dedicated remote hire as a member of the team: include them in meetings, recognize good work, and widen their responsibilities as they prove themselves.
Full-time, dedicated roles give the person one stable job and a reason to invest in your business, which is a strong foundation for retention.
