Ramp time (time to productivity)
Ramp time, or time to productivity, is how long a new hire takes to perform the role at the expected level without extra help. It depends on the complexity of the work, the quality of onboarding and SOPs, and how quickly the manager gives feedback. Shorter ramp time means value sooner.

What it means in practice
Ramp time is where hiring for experience pays off. A professional who has already done the job for other companies needs to learn your business, not the role itself.
Shorten ramp time with a written 30-day plan, starter tasks with SOPs, daily check-ins in the first two weeks, and quick, specific feedback. Expand responsibility as each task is done well.
Our onboarding masterclass covers a full plan for the first weeks, and the five-day productivity guide shows quick wins to hand over first.
